Rotary Donate a Car

Donate a Car

Thank you to Rotary Club of White Rock Millennium, B.C., for including Wheelchair Foundation Canada in the group of charities which will benefit from their "Rotary Donate A Car" charitable fundraising program.

The Rotary Donate A Car program provides a charitable alternative for those individuals who would like to dispose of an old vehicle, including boats and motor homes, and receive a tax receipt for their donation. Vehicles can be in any condition and towing is included in the service. All proceeds support the "good works of Rotary" both locally and internationally and now also support Wheelchair Foundation of Canada.

Bamyan Province - Afghanistan

February 09, 2005
This thirty five year old man, from Bamyan Province became disabled due to disease. He said he has five children and he is the only source of income for his whole family. He said he lives outside of the city where there is no opportunity to work even for normal people. As he is disabled so he can't do any work so every day he comes to the city and sits in an auto mechanic workshop to guard the tools and at the end of the day the auto mechanic gives him some money.

Also sometimes other people come by the workshop give him money and in this way he feeds his family. He said he hates to take money from people without any work but what else he can do. He said if he doesn't take this money then survival for them will be impossible. He said, every day he takes a lift from people who drive towards the city. He always sits on the road side and waits for someone to give him a ride. He said the auto mechanic pays him according to the time he spends in the workshop. He said he spends little time in the workshop every day because he can't come by himself to reach the workshop early. He said sometimes no one gives him a ride to the city and that day he earns nothing for his family.

He was happy by receiving a wheelchair because it will provide mobility to him and he will not need someone to give him a ride to the city. He said he will arrive early to the workshop and will spend more time there and it will increase his income.
